Microsoft Windows 7 / Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
To connect from your Microsoft Windows 7 or Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 instance please follow these steps.
First lets ensure that your client has a valid IP Address. This is the address used to communicate between your client computer and the iPod/iPhone;
- Click Windows Logo
- Click Control Panel
- Open Network and Internet
- Open Network and Sharing Center
- Under Connections select Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection, one will be listed for Internet access.
- Select Details
- Ensure you have an IP IPv4 Address listed. If you received an IP Address of 169.254.x.y (APIPA) please ensure that your machine is connected correctly to the Wired network or Wireless network.
Next we’ll need to check your IP Address on the iPhone/iPod, this will also be LookSee’s IP Address on you the device, so please follow these steps;
- On the iPhone/iPod
- Tap Settings
- Tap Wi-Fi
- Tap the (>) on you Network Name
- Note down the IP Address, this is the Address you need to use
Now let’s go ahead and confirm that LookSee can see this IP Address;
- Open LookSee
- Tap Settings
- Tap Sharing. This will turn on Sharing (WebDAV) On for you. As an example you will also received a message in the Settings page, “Please connect to the following address: http://10.1.1.103:8080“
- Please note down this address, including the http:// and the :8080 at the end. Please note this down, it’s important!
To upload files to the device from Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 the simplest method is as follows;
- Click the Windows Logo
- Click Computer
- Right Click in Explorer
- Select Add a Network Location
- Click Next on the Welcome to the Add Network Location Wizard
- Select Choose a custom network location
- Click Next on the Where do you want to create this network place
- Use your address from the previous steps, ie http://10.1.1.103:8080. Ensure that the http:// and the :8080 are in the address.
- Click Next
- On the What do you want to name this location, enter a name such as My iPod or My iPhone.
- Click Finish
In the future if you want to connect to your iPod/iPhone again all you need to do is the following;
On the iPod/iPhone
- Open LookSee
- Tap Sharing to enable Sharing.
On your Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 computer;
- Click the Windows Logo
- Click Computer
- Open your connection name
Hopefully you’re still awake after all these steps. Once you have it all setup then the rest is just a breeze to use.
As with all things, issues can arise and we’ll need to troubleshoot some setups. Unfortunately the Windows WebDAV (WebClient, mrxdav) mini-redirector can be a bit touchy so please keep that in mind. I’ve tried to test all scenarios when connecting to LookSee but there are just certain environments which are impossible to simulate or get up and running. So apologies in advance.
