Kubuntu 8.10

To connect from your Ubuntu instance please follow these steps.

First lets ensure that your client has a valid network connection. This is connection is used to communicate between your client computer and the iPod/iPhone;

  1. In the Kubuntu Window Task Manager
  2. Click the Network Manager
  3. Select Connection Information
  4. Ensure your Eth0 is Enabled

Next we’ll need to check your IP Address on the iPhone/iPod, this will also be LookSee’s IP Address on you the device, so please follow these steps;

  1. On the iPhone/iPod
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap Wi-Fi
  4. Tap the (>) on you Network Name
  5. Note down the IP Address, this is the Address you need to use

Now let’s go ahead and confirm that LookSee can see this IP Address;

  1. Open LookSee
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap Sharing. This will turn on Sharing (WebDAV) On for you. As an example you will also received a message in the Settings page, “Please connect to the following address: http://10.1.1.103:8080
  4. Please note down this address, including the http:// and the :8080 at the end. Please note this down, it’s important!

To upload files to the device from Mac OS X the simplest method is as follows;

  1. In the Kubuntu Window Task Manager
  2. Click K Application Launcher
  3. Select Computer
  4. Select Network (remote:/)
  5. Open Add Network Folder
  6. Select WebFolder (webdav), Click Next
  7. Enter a Name such as My iPod or My iPhone
  8. Enter a User if you have Security turned On in LookSee
  9. In Server enter the iPod/iPhone IP Address, for example 10.1.1.103
  10. In Port enter 8080, or the specified Port in the LookSee Settings tab
  11. In the Folder enter /
  12. Click Save & Connect

In the future if you want to connect to your iPod/iPhone again all you need to do is the follow the above procedure.

On the iPod/iPhone

  1. Open LookSee
  2. Tap Sharing to enable Sharing.

On your Kubuntu computer;

  1. In the Kubuntu Window Task Manager
  2. Click K Application Launcher
  3. Select Computer
  4. Select Network (remote:/)
  5. Open the Name you created previously, such as My iPod or My iPhone.

Hopefully you’re still awake after all these steps. Once you have it all setup then the rest is just a breeze to use.

I’ve tried to test all scenarios when connecting to LookSee but there are just certain environments which are impossible to simulate or get up and running. So apologies in advance.
